The team

Our team includes information designers and developers, who work closely to deliver projects and solutions.

We keep our core team small and when required, collaborate with likeminded specialists for specific projects.

Matt

Matt Carey

Director/Web Designer

Matt started Lift in 2003, having worked previously for an information design studio on large-scale web publishing projects. He has been designing and building for the web since 1996, when he made his first website in his final year studying Typography & Graphic Communication at the University of Reading. His focus is on accessibility and navigation, particularly within large-scale sites, to deliver websites and web apps that are easy to use and understand.

Matt has been a visiting lecturer at the University of Reading and University of Wales, teaching web design projects. When Matt is not in the studio he is often out on his bike or at a velodrome where he is a volunteer British Cycling coach.

Ash

Ash Smith

Graphic Designer

Ash is a graphic designer and he joined the Lift team in 2015 from the in-house design team at the University of Reading. After graduating from the university’s Department of Typography & Graphic Communication, Ash lead on many of the University’s most high profile print and digital projects, taking each one from initial brief to sending files to press. Coming from a typographic background has given Ash an appreciation for fine detail in all aspects of his work. When he is not in the Studio he can often be found building Japanese model kits and slurping Ramen.

Clare

Clare Carey

Director/Information Designer

Clare joined Lift in 2004, having previously worked as Creative lead at an information design studio in London. Her focus is on clear communication and solving complex information design challenges, including forms design and typographic projects. She has a particular interest in strategic, usable and ethical design.

In 2013 Clare split her time working at Lift and the Centre for Information Design Research at the University of Reading. Then in 2015 she completed her MA(Research) in Typography & Graphic Communication, at the University of Reading where she researched educational apps and the use of mobile devices in primary schools. When Clare is not working she is usually ‘making’ something, baking bread or cycling with her children.
