A screen grab from the site
Elite Landscapes is a well-established landscaping company which works on large-scale projects varying from new housing development to restoring historical gardens. They wanted a website which could reflect these different areas of expertise and would showcase previous work and attract new clients. Work commenced November 2005.
The website needed to reflect the company’s aim of producing high quality work with a fine attention to detail and also be easy to navigate and use-friendly. We used their logo and existing identity to help develop a layout which would relate to their other printed promotional material. The site fully complies with all government accessibility guidelines.
The website has a simple top navigation system, allowing the user to easily locate information about the company, contact them and find out about their previous work. The design was developed using muted colours which would be sympathetic to the many images displayed in the site. The cream and green were neutral enough not to compete with the often strong colours in the photos, while also creating an identity for the site. We felt that the best way to display Elite’s work was through photographs of the different sites themselves. The header panel is used to show the different materials which are used in landscaping. These close crops makes interesting and often abstract patterns, which can also be seen in the larger photos in the various sections. The image changes on every page. Each ‘Project Details’ pages use one large photo, followed by a description of the work and a summary of costs and other key information. Elite did not want the user to have to scroll up and down pages too much; to save space but not compromise on the amount of images we could include, a selection of smaller images are displayed below this text, which are enlarged when selected. We also developed a print dedicated style sheet which allows each page to be printed out on a single page of A4 paper. Return to web & electronic publishing
